Sailboats!

I have been ready to make a baby blanket, even though no babies are coming my way (so sad, really).  I don't really purchase "baby" fabric, just color families.

Monday, a pattern jumped right out at me.  I love it when that happens, don't you?  The Sailboat Block, on the SheCanSew Blog, is perfect!   I printed the pattern, and started sorting through my stash, although my stash really looks like piles.  Why is that?  Why can I not organize?

And here is my test block--

My design bar is happy again!

We have some Denyse Schmidt fabrics paired with a Kate Spain wave print, which worked out perfectly!  The pattern could use some tweaking, at least to me.  The sails called for 3 7/8 inch squares for the HST's, and on my second try I just went with 4 inch.  They trimmed up much better.  Also, the pattern stated that the block would be a 12" block; however, 12" is a finished and sewn block, not unfinished size, which could be confusing for a new quilter.  And this block is easy enough for a new quilter!

I have a fabric in mind for the sashing if it is not too neutral.  Will check it out before I write it up!!

For now, linking up to Sew Cute Tuesday, at Blossom Heart Quilts., and Show and Tell Tuesday at i have to say   Stop by and say hello!

Have a great week,
Debbie
